CBS announces the newest face in late night, Taylor Tomlinson

It’s been several months since James Corden signed off as the host of CBS’ The Late Late Show, and news has finally broken about what — and who — will be taking over.

Earlier this year, the network revealed plans for a shakeup to the late-night landscape by ditching The Late Late Show, which debuted in 1995 as a companion to David Letterman’s Late Show. Tom Snyder initially hosted, until he was replaced by Craig Kilborn in 1999. After Kilborn’s exit in 2004, Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson took over for a 10-year stint until Corden arrived.

Previously, CBS announced it would be filling the Late Late Show time-slot with a reboot of @midnight, the comedic game show originally aired on Comedy Central until it bowed out in August 2017, with host Chris Hardwick (Talking Dead) and his funny guests riffing on viral and pop culture trends.

Night owls and parents of sleep-averse infants may have noticed that CBS has been airing Byron Allen’s Comics Unleashed in that 12:30 a.m. spot in recent weeks, but that will soon change.

The newly updated After Midnight is expected to take over the time-slot in early 2024, and comedian Taylor Tomlinson (Look at You) will serve as host.

Hardwick isn’t involved in this iteration, but The Late Show host Stephen Colbert is. The former host of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report is onboard as executive producer via his Spartina Industries production company, which has teamed up with CBS Studios and Funny or Die to produce After Midnight.

“We are thrilled to be reunited with our friends at Funny Or Die,” Colbert said in a statement. “My hope is that every night, After Midnight will be just as ridiculous as the internet is every day. Plus, the original @midnight aired after The Colbert Report, so welcoming this new show to 12:30 feels like coming home.”

Henry R. Munoz III, owner of Funny Or Die, added: “Funny Or Die is proud to partner once again with CBS Studios, Spartina Industries and our longtime friend and collaborator, Stephen Colbert. Now that we are all old enough to stay up until after midnight, I’m excited for this show to harness the power of comedy and laughter to bring us all together.”

The creative team behind After Midnight includes Jack Martin (Raid the Cage) and Eric Pierce (Hollywood Game Night), who will serve as showrunners, with writer/comedian Jo Firestone (The Tonight Show) as head writer.
